Hiddes Thoko:

Hiddes Thoko is a musical collective from Utrecht(NL). Their main goal is to create epic musical stories, dissolving traditional conventions . Jazz, minimal music, dance music and many other styles from all over the world come together in an energetic melting pot that will leave you with an appetite for more!  They draw inspiration from artists such as Tigran Hamasyan, Simon Phillips, Avishai Cohen and Kneebody.

Hiddes Thoko was founded by Hidde Smedinga(1991). Although he started out as a classical pianist, he soon developed an interest for improvised music and studied Jazz&Pop at the conservatory of Utrecht. Here he studied with Randal Corsen and Bert van den Brink(amongst others).

In his music, Hidde tries to combine narrative elements of classical music with styles from all over the world. Together with his bandmembers they transform from a string quartet to a metal band, and anything in between.
